  3. The DEFCON Documentary will no doubt become the definitive DEFCON doc and was made with a high amount of access from top level officials apparently. BTW DEFCON is a large hacker and hacking gathering of minds in Las Vegas, USA and resembles some sort of a dorky cyber punk fantasy.

The documentary was made by filmmaker Jason Scott who is known for his obscure computer tech related subjects and also for releasing all of his material online for free in the spirit of open information and education. I also posted a 20 minute preview that was released.

  4. Full 20 minute preview of the DEFCON hacking conference documentary due out this year. Wait for the story about leaving the drugs lying around the hotel room… I laughed.

  10. The Dream Machine: Do you know what Scanimate is? Its an awesome machine made to make graphics and special effects for television back in the 70s and 80s. These guys were pioneering engineers and visual artists working with hardcore analogue electronics before motion graphics became the huge industry it is today.

We sold a lot of terrible stuff for way to much money.

Some of it was terrible sure but sometimes Scanimate was capable of some pretty cool imagery . You can buy the full documentary on DVD and read a bunch more about the history of Scanimate from the guy who owns the last functioning Scanimate system himself at scanimate.net. I’d like to see the entire documentary some time but I’d LOVE to try this thing out and make some of my own scanimations.
